Tenants: How to move in to your new apartment during confinement?

As a renter, it is possible that you will have no choice but to move in to a new apartment during this uncertain period of government ordered confinement in France which is meant to slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. This can be a difficult process due to the limitations in contact suggested by the French government but Lodgis has set up a process to help you during this inevitable step in the moving process while still protecting your health and the health of the owner.

  • Handing over the keys and signing the “state of the premises” document must be organized ahead of time by the owner.
  • We suggest that you organize this meeting with the owner at a neutral space that you agree upon beforehand in order to avoid unnecessary movement during confinement.
  • Before leaving, print the “Necessary Travel Certificate” and check the box “Necessary Family Reasons”. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can hand write the document on a piece of regular paper. Click HERE to download it.
  • Bring your rental contract with you.
  • Bring your own pen to sign the “state of the premises” document and to sign for your keys.
  • Bring hand sanitizer if you have it.
  •

Things to do during your move in

  • Keep a safe distance of at least 1 meter (3 feet/ 36 inches) from the owner and avoid all physical contact with them.
  • The owner will hand over the (disinfected) keys in an envelope.
  • The owner will NOT accompany you into the apartment.
  •

Things to do after you move in:

  • Wash your hands after this exchange (just in case).
  • Once you’ve moved in, you have 10 days to inform the owner of any changes or damages that need to be made to the “state of the premises” document.
  •

    Just a reminder:

the goal of this confinement is to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus and to protect the health of everyone but especially those who are the most susceptible to contracting the virus. We must all work together and follow the directions and advice given by the government in order for this to work. It is important to limit going out as much as possible and to reserve those times for essential reasons such as “Necessary Family Reasons”.

We hope that this new process will help you move in to your new space in the safest and easiest way possible during this time.
