Trips around Paris: Thoiry Safari Zoo

You would like to have a nice day with your family but you don’t feel like facing the long waiting lines of Disneyland Paris? The Thoiry garden which is home to the magnificent Castle of Thoiry is one of the oldest zoological garden of Europe.

About the Thoiry zoo

Located in the Yvelines, around 50 kms in the west of Paris, the zoo covers 150 hectares and shelters 81 different species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.
You will have the possibility to take the safari track in your own car and to cross the glass tunnels surrounded by lions, to discover rare species such as the Siberian tiger, the snow leopard and the Komodo dragon.
If you are traveling with children, a trip to Thoiry will be a guaranteed success! Make sure to keep some time to explore the beautiful “Château de Thoiry” from the 16th century which abounds with sumptuous furniture, paintings and tapestries.

Thoiry Safari Zoo – Practical Information

Address: Château et parc zoologique de Thoiry, rue Pavillon de Montreuil, 78770, Thoiry
Schedules: Depending on the seasons (closed from mid-November to February)
Price: €30 for adults; €24 for children; €28 for seniors (60+); €16 to €13 for disabled persons.

Getting there

(a) By car: Take the road A13 in Port d’Auteuil. At the junction A13, A12 take the highway A12 then N12 in direction of Dreux. Take the exit Thoiry, follow the D76 then D11 in direction of Thoiry.
(b) By bus: From April 24th to October 2nd there is a weekly shuttle from Gare de Montfort l’Amaury to the wildlife preserve.
