It\u2019s safe, too, as long as you\u2019re sensible \u2013 <strong>wearing a helmet<\/strong> isn\u2019t compulsory, but it is advised! In fact, thanks to the mayor of Paris\u2019 initiative <strong>to introduce 30km\/h zones<\/strong> across the city, cycling is safer than ever.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nThere are lots of bike lanes available, as well as some bike-friendly bus lanes. There are different subscriptions and passes available for regular users and young people, depending on how often you use your bike.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nA basic subscription starts at just<strong> 3.10 \u20ac a month <\/strong>and when you rent a bike the <strong>first 30 minutes are free<\/strong> and each <strong>additional half hour is 1 \u20ac<\/strong>. With the electric bikes, the<strong> first 30 minutes costs 1 \u20ac<\/strong> and each <strong>additional half hour is 2 \u20ac.<\/strong> You can also buy a one <strong>day pass for 5 \u20ac<\/strong> or a <strong>7 day pass for 15 \u20ac<\/strong>. If you are an occasional user, you don\u2019t need a subscription. It only costs <strong>1 \u20ac for 30 minutes <\/strong>and for the electric bikes,<strong> 2 \u20ac for 30 minutes.<\/strong> You can view all the prices and details <a href=\"https:\/\/www.velib-metropole.fr\/en_GB\/offers\">here<\/a>.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nNote: in some regions of Paris, the self-service bike system is managed by different organizations and is therefore <strong>not called V\u00e9lib\u2019<\/strong>. You will find <strong>\u201cCristolib\u201d<\/strong> in Cr\u00e9teil, <strong>\u201cVelcom\u201d<\/strong> at Plaine-Commune, or even <strong>\u201cVelo2\u201d<\/strong> in Cergy-Pontoise. A V\u00e9lib\u2019 by any other name is just as good!<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe Velib system is well developed, with a <strong>large number of stations and bikes available<\/strong> in Paris and the surrounding area.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.velib-metropole.fr\/en_GB\/map#\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/MAP3.jpg\" alt=\"MAP3\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lodgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/MAP3.jpg 640w, https:\/\/blog.lodgis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/MAP3-500x375.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Paris 2020: cycling capital of the world!<\/h2>\n<p>The Mayor of Paris wants to make the city <strong>the cycling capital of the world by 2020<\/strong>. In order to do this, many new reforms have been introduced to encourage people to get on their bikes!<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nIn 2017, <strong>plans to construct new bicycle lanes <\/strong>on Avenue des Champs-Elys\u00e9es, rue de Rivoli, the Left-Bank of the river Seine, and Avenue de la Grande-Arm\u00e9e were introduced, as well as new lanes in the 14th and the 16th arrondissement. This project falls in line with the environmentally friendly measures <strong>established after the COP21 conference<\/strong> and aims to tackle car traffic in Paris.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nLots of changes were also introduced in January 2018 in order to improve the system: <strong>new tariffs, electric bikes and more stations<\/strong> are all part of the plans to encourage you to start cycling! Electric bikes mean you can now <strong>charge your phone whilst you cycle<\/strong>. And thanks to the V-box on the new bikes, you can connect your phone to the screen via Bluetooth to<strong> check maps and your journey stats.<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nLots more stations are being built for the new bikes \u2013 as of<strong> Spring 2019 there are about 1200 in service<\/strong>, with a target of <strong>1400 by 2020<\/strong>.
