The Ch\u00e2teau de Sceaux is a grand 17th-Century country estate that was masterminded by the famous landscape architect, Andr\u00e9 Le N\u00f4tre, chief gardener to Louis XIV.
\n
\nThe original ch\u00e2teau was built for the famous finance minister Jean-Baptiste Colbert, who rescued the French economy from bankruptcy after the King’s profligate spending on wars.
\n 
\nThe ch\u00e2teau was confiscated and largely destroyed<\/strong> during the French Revolution, but large parts of the estate (the pavilion, stables and Orangerie) were preserved by a wealthy merchant who purchased the property from the state.
\n 
\nInherited by the Duc de Tr\u00e9vise, the ch\u00e2teau was rebuilt and the estate restored in the style of Louis XIII<\/strong>. It is now home to the Mus\u00e9e de l’\u00cele de France, which boasts an extensive collection of paintings by the “\u00c9cole de Paris”\u00a0<\/strong> 20th-Century artists.<\/p>\n
