For the first time in 70 years, the visionary collection of masterpeices amassed by Russian art collector, Sergei Shchukin, returns to Paris this winter. From October 22nd 2016 to February 20th 2017, this extraordinary exhibition will be open to the general public in the Fondation Louis Vuitton.

\nIn the late 19th-century, a sharp-eyed Russian industrialist called Sergei Shchukin entered the Moscow art world and began building what was to be a titanic collection of 275 modern masterpieces. This includes iconic works by Monet, Renoir, C\u00e9zanne, Van Gogh, Rousseau, Gaugin, Matisse and Picasso.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The collection was seized and appropriated by the government after the Russian Revolution in 1917 and eventually moved to the Pushkin museum in Moscow the State Hermitage in Saint Petersburg.<\/p>\n

In 2016-17, France and Russia are holding a bilateral year of cultural tourism. The Icons of Modern Art is a unique showpiece of this partnership and undoubtedly a highlight on the cultural calendar.<\/p>\n

The collection spans the Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and Modern<\/strong> eras. Put simply, it will leave you in awe with its magnificence!<\/p>\n

A visit to this exhibition is also an opportunity to admire the recently opened Fondation Louis Vuitton. This ultra-modern, glass-panelled building<\/strong> was designed by the veteran American architect, Frank Gehry, and sits adjacent to the Jardin d’Acclimatation in the vast Bois de Boulogne park. It boasts multi-level rooftop terraces with spectacular panoramic views across the city of Paris.<\/p>\n
