The French equivalents to US apps
You’ve probably noticed that we don’t use the same apps in every country. Today we’ll be comparing the biggest American apps with their French counterparts!
Each country has its own apps. But if you look closely, you’ll notice that they’re different but many are very similar and serve the same purpose!
Walmart – Qui est le moins cher? E. leclerc
Walmart or Wal-Mart Stores, Inc is an American multinational corporation that specialises in retail distribution. It’s found all over the US and has also expanded overseas (particularly in China and in Great Britain as the owners of Asda), with over 11,000 stores globally.
E.Leclerc is a retail cooperative that specialises in French-sourced food. Operating mainly in France but also across Europe, E.Leclerc now has more than 700 stores.
These two supermarket retailers have created price comparison apps.
Walmart allows you to:
- Find your nearest Walmart store
- Get money back if you find something cheaper elsewhere
- Create a grocery list
- Get weekly discount offers
This is a pretty useful app that helps you to save money as you shop!
Qui est le moins cher allows you to:
- Find your nearest E.leclerc supermarkets and pharmacies
- Make grocery lists
- Find the cheapest E.leclerc stores
- Take part in competitions
- Scan items to see their prices
Ultimately, these two apps are very similar. If you’re in Paris and shopping in an E.Leclerc, then you should get this app! It’s available on iOS, Android and Windows Phone.
Trivia Crack – Duel Quiz
Trivia Crack is an app based on the game Trivial Pursuit, in which you answer questions on different themes (Entertainment, Art, History, Science, Geography and Sport).
You can also play against your friends as you answer questions on these different topics.
Duel Quiz, based on the same idea, lets you challenge your friends to a match lasting several questions (you each get your turn to choose the theme of the questions).
This app adds a social dimension to the game so that you and your friends can have fun, however far away you may be!
My Verizon mobile – Mobile Bouygues Telecom client space
Verizon Wireless is an American telecommunications company. This internet, TV and telephone provider is present in 75 different countries.
Bouygues Telecom, a subsidiary of the Bouygues group, is a French telecommunications operator.
Verizon Wireless and Bouyges Telecom have both launched apps that feature in the Top 100 most downloaded (US and FR). These apps offer the same services:
- Tracking your consumption
- Seeing your bills online
- Phone contract information
- The option to change your tariff or your phone via the app
You’ll notice strong similarities between these two apps (logo, design and content)… But are our needs so different from one continent to another?
Happy Hours – Happy City
Happy Hours is an app that shows you where you can enjoy «happy hour» prices in over 100 American towns and cities.
Happy City follows the same concept, but in Paris!
Happy City is the app you need for the start of the evening (or afternoon…). It’s available on iOS and online, you don’t have to wait to download it!
Wigglehop Movie Showtime – Allociné
Wigglehop movie Showtime tells you about the latest films being shown. The app also offers lots information about films, TV series and plays.
Our French equivalent is Allociné, which provides the same services (apart from information on the theater).
If you’re a film fanatic and have come to Paris, you ought to have downloaded this before even landing! Certain cinemas are more noteworthy, like le Grand Rex in Paris, for example, a listed historic monument that’s situated near grands boulevards.
